Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep concern over the severe deterioration of the law-and-order situation across the country, including the capital, Dhaka.
The party alleged that despite open extortion, criminal attacks, land grabbing, and looting taking place in public view, the administration has failed to play an effective role in curbing them.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday to highlight the ongoing situation, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar stated that unprecedented criminal acts have occurred in various areas of the country, including the capital, over the past few days, placing the lives and property of general citizens under severe threat.
Highlighting several recent violent incidents, the party noted that an attack was carried out on a health centre in Mirpur, where the building was vandalised and goods were looted. It also pointed to an armed attack, vandalism, and robbery at the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir in the ECB Chattar area.
Moreover, Jamaat cited an attempt to grab land in Mohammadpur, the murder of a businessman in Rajshahi, a midnight attack on an Islami Bank Hospital in Nayapaltan, and a series of lootings across 21 houses in Kushtia, claiming that these events have caused widespread public anxiety.
Jamaat further stated that at the local level, the control of local markets (hat-bazaars), extortion, fertiliser dealerships, and the influence of the ruling party in various service activities – alongside internal feuds – are making the situation increasingly complex.
The party accused law enforcement agencies of acting as silent spectators in many instances rather than taking effective action.
Strongly criticising the failure of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the administration to manage the situation, Jamaat-e-Islami called for an immediate end to all forms of land grabbing and extortion.
It also demanded that those involved in recent attacks, looting, and violence be swiftly identified, brought to justice, and given exemplary punishment.
