The National Citizen Party (NCP) has finalised a restructuring plan for its central committee, including the distribution of responsibilities within its highest decision-making body, the Political Board, with a formal announcement expected soon.
The decision was taken at a Political Board meeting on Monday, where party leaders discussed organisational structure, responsibility allocation, local government strategy and the country’s law and order situation.
The leaders expressed concern over what they described as worsening law and order, nationwide anarchy and land-grabbing incidents. They decided to announce nationwide protest programmes, with details of the schedule and format to be disclosed later.
The meeting also discussed the government’s formation of a Constitution Amendment Committee. NCP leaders said the move ignored the public mandate expressed through the referendum and accused the government of misleading the nation and creating divisions among opposition parties.
They described the committee as “one-party” and questioned its public legitimacy, saying the government would be responsible for the consequences of the decision.
On organisational expansion, the NCP said district committees have been formed in all districts and that it plans to complete the formation of upazila committees by October.
The party also discussed its local government strategy and measures to expand its organisational network.
It decided to arrange political workshops at divisional and district levels, assigning responsibility for the sessions to Sarjis Alam, Sarwar Tushar, Ali Ahsan Junaid and Saleh Uddin Sifat.
To oversee organisational activities, the NCP decided to form a 23-member Organisational Sub-committee headed by Sarjis Alam.
The sub-committee will include two deputy heads from the Political Board. The party also plans to appoint one Divisional Organisational Secretary and one Assistant Organisational Secretary in each division.
The Political Board meeting was attended by Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Nasiruddin Patwary, Asif Mahmud, Abdullah Alamin, Atiq Mujahid, Sarwar Tushar, Arif Adeeb, Mahmuda Mitu, Nusrat Tabassum, Salehuddin Sifat and Akram Hossain CF.
