Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, also the Opposition Leader in Parliament, Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that mob terror has spread across Bangladesh under shelter and patronage of the ruling party.
He made the allegation to journalists on Monday afternoon following an inspection of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka, which was damaged, vandalised, and looted during a recent attack.
Expressing grave concern over the incident of attack at that healthcare facility, Shafiqur demanded that whoever the perpetrators are, they must be brought to justice under the law.
Alleging political patronage behind the incident, he said, “Surely, no one would dare commit such a major misdeed without the shelter and patronage of the ruling party.”
Expressing concern over the country’s overall law and order situation, the Jamaat Amir urged the government to take immediate initiatives so that no miscreants can commit any antisocial misdeeds anywhere in Bangladesh.
He disclosed that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to donate Tk50 lakh to re-establish the Radda MCH-FP Centre, adding that further cooperation would be provided if necessary to ensure medical care for local residents.
“Our initially announced assistance will continue, Insha’Allah. This is the beginning, not the end,” Shafiqur said. He reiterated that if more needs to be done for the treatment of the people in the area, the party will do so.
During the inspection, Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Council member and Dhaka City Secretary Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Central Working Council member and City Assistant Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, Central Majlis-e-Shura member and City Assistant Secretary Dr Fakhruddin Manik, and Central Majlis-e-Shura member and City Publicity and Media Secretary Ataur Rahman Sarkar were present, alongside other city leaders.
