In a major internal purge on Wednesday, BNP dissolved its Dhaka North executive committee alongside its youth and student wings while expelling 14 key party figures.
The sweeping organisational shake-up was announced through separate statements issued by BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Sramik Dal.
The dismissals follow fierce public backlash over a violent raid, vandalism, and partial demolition at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, where local party cadres were reportedly implicated.
Although police investigations into the healthcare facility attack remain ongoing, official party releases refrained from directly citing the Mirpur incident, attributing the expulsions instead to gross disciplinary breaches, anti-organisational conduct, and unethical behaviour, while Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal officials formally claimed their respective committees were disbanded due to expired tenures.
A press release signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain confirmed that the 51-member Dhaka North convening committee, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque and Md Mostafa Zaman, had been summarily dissolved, with a replacement panel expected to be announced shortly.
In a parallel statement, BNP confirmed the immediate expulsion of three senior local leaders: Shah Ali Thana BNP Joint Convener Khalil Chowdhury, C-Block Unit General Secretary Anwar Hossain, and Dhaka North City Committee Member Hafizur Rahman Shukku, all of whom were stripped of primary party memberships over unethical conduct.
In another move, Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan announced the complete dissolution of the Dhaka North Jubo Dal executive body, a decision ratified by Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna and General Secretary Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan. Similarly, Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the immediate disbandment of the Dhaka West Chhatra Dal committee, citing expired operational mandates.
Chhatra Dal leadership subsequently expelled five high-ranking student leaders for severe breaches of party discipline, including Dhaka West Chhatra Dal Vice-President Sarwar Alam Pias and Senior Joint General Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam Jinnah, alongside Darussalam Thana Chhatra Dal Convener Iqbal Hossain Dipu, Member Secretary Omar Naim, and Ward 93 Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Shanto Rahman.
The punitive measures were formally approved by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
