Towhid Hridoy struck 42 off 25 balls as Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to post 111 for seven against Pakistan in their Asian Games semi-final in Nagoya.
The match was reduced to 13 overs after a 75-minute delay caused by a wet outfield. Pakistan captain Shahibzada Farhan won the toss and elected to field.
Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das early, leaving them 21 for two after three overs. Parvez Hossain Emon then fell soon after, with Bangladesh 23 for three.
Saif Hassan provided some stability with 19 off 17 balls, including two sixes. He and Hridoy then helped Bangladesh move beyond 40 before Saif fell lbw to Sufiyan Muqeem.
Hridoy took charge from there. He attacked the Pakistan spinners and reached 45 from 25 deliveries, hitting three sixes and a four.
He fell in the 12th over with Bangladesh 103 for six. Saim Ayub held the catch near the boundary, ending an innings that had provided the foundation for Bangladesh’s recovery.
Mosaddek Hossain followed one ball later after scoring 11 off 16 balls.
Mehidy Hasan then struck two fours in the final over to finish unbeaten on eight from four balls. His late runs helped Bangladesh reach 111 for seven from their 13 overs.
Pakistan now need 112 runs from 13 overs to reach the final.
Bangladesh have opted for four spinners in their XI, putting added responsibility on their slow-bowling attack to defend the total on a pitch that showed visible cracks.
