Bangladesh Under-19 women moved closer to the final of the Women’s Under-19 Tri-Series after beating Pakistan by 13 runs in Faisalabad on Tuesday, overcoming a strong start from the hosts to defend a modest total.
The victory was Bangladesh’s second over Pakistan in the tournament. They had won their opening match by 30 runs before losing to Sri Lanka in their second outing.
With four points from three matches, Bangladesh have moved to the top of the table and strengthened their position in the race for the final.
Pakistan appeared to be in control of the chase early on after reaching 50 without losing a wicket in the first six overs. Rawail Farhan and Komal Khan kept the asking rate under control before Bangladesh finally broke through.
Farhan made 32 off 29 balls and Komal added 36 from 29, but Pakistan’s chase began to unravel after the opening stand was broken at 69. They lost two more wickets for just two runs as Bangladesh tightened the pressure through the middle overs.
Pakistan were left needing 21 from the final over with three wickets in hand, but could score only seven to finish on 126-7.
Farzana Yasmin Medha was the key figure with the ball, taking 3-25 from four overs. Nishita Akter Nishi claimed 2-28, while Tithi Das Aparna conceded only eight runs in her four overs and took one wicket.
Earlier, Bangladesh had also faced an early setback after being sent in, losing two wickets for just four runs.
Sadia Akter steadied the innings with an unbeaten 33, while Medha scored 28 off 22 balls. Sadia Islam contributed 24 as Bangladesh recovered to post 139-5.
