Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said on Thursday afternoon that fascist and “gupto” (underground political party) have re-united to plot anti-national conspiracies, calling for public alertness against those causing anarchy.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a welfare event held at the Fulgazi Pilot High School ground in Feni, which marked the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards, honourariums for imams and priests, and financial support for underprivileged students and helpless people.

Affirming that pre-election pledges were kept, the prime minister noted that successfully delivering Farmer Cards, Family Cards, and honourariums for imams and priests would directly benefit the public.

Recalling that former president Ziaur Rahman had initiated canal-digging efforts to serve the people, Tarique Rahman claimed that the BNP’s politics is dedicated to changing people’s destinies, including plans to reopen closed factories to benefit citizens.

He cautioned that public welfare initiatives must be implemented gradually and cannot be realised if anarchy is allowed to prevail in the country.

Criticising those who fled the country alongside those pursuing a “one-point” demand, the prime minister questioned whether they possessed any concrete programmes for canal digging, Family Cards, or Farmer Cards to serve the public.

He further called out a political party that claimed to sell “tickets to heaven” prior to the election, saying that its hypocrisy has been exposed since such ownership belongs solely to Allah.

Commenting on underground forces, he remarked that their statement regarding the return of fled fascist was unsurprising given that they previously engaged in politics together.

Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated the first phase of the “Rehabilitation of Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project”, implemented at a cost of Tk1,542 crore 16 lakh to alleviate long-standing flood suffering in Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas of Feni.

During the programme, 7,643 Farmer Cards, 510 Family Cards, and honourarium allowances for 238 imams, priests, and temple caretakers (sebayet) were distributed, alongside financial assistance cheques for severely helpless individuals and persons with disabilities.

The event was also addressed by Public Administration Ministry Adviser Ismail Zabihullah, Agriculture Minister Aminur Rashid, Feni-2 Member of Parliament (MP) Joynal Abdin, and Feni-1 MP Munshi Rafiqul Alam.
