A case has been filed against television actor Zaher Alvi, naming him as the prime accused in connection with his wife’s, Afra Ibnat Khan Iqra, alleged suicide. The complaint was lodged at Pallabi Police Station by Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed, the maternal uncle of the deceased, Afra Ibnat Iqra. Actress Iffat Ara Tithi has also been named as one of the accused in the case.
According to the complaint, Iqra was allegedly driven to take her own life due to prolonged family disputes and various forms of mental and physical abuse.
AKM Alamgir Jahan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station, confirmed that the case has been formally registered following receipt of the written complaint. He stated that, in addition to Zaher Alvi, several members of his family have been named in the case, including the actor’s mother.
The OC added that a preliminary investigation is now underway. Police are questioning those concerned, gathering evidence and examining the sequence of events surrounding the incident.
Sources within the police said investigators will look into whether domestic discord, mental distress or other factors contributed to the death. Further legal steps will be taken after the autopsy report is received and all relevant evidence has been reviewed.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media. However, law enforcement authorities have emphasised that no conclusions can be drawn until the investigation is complete. Police maintain that the truth will be established through an impartial inquiry, and appropriate action will follow accordingly.
