ULAB soft-launches joint PhD programme with UK’s Portsmouth University

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has soft-launched a joint PhD programme initiative with the University of Portsmouth (UoP), United Kingdom, at an online meeting held on 6 August.
The one-hour 50-minute Zoom session brought together senior officials and academics from both universities, along with project partners and representatives involved in quality assurance and international engagement, said a press release on Monday.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Shamsad Mortuza delivered the welcome remarks. UoP Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) Bobby Mehta and Associate Dean (Global Engagement) Jacqueline Priego represented the UK university. ULAB Pro Vice-Chancellor Jude William R Genilo represented ULAB.
Other participants included Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organisations Founder President Musharroff Hossain as project partner and Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education representative Piers Wall.
Following the speeches, an interactive workshop on Transnational Education (TNE) was conducted, with participants discussing key questions related to developing the proposed joint PhD programme.
ULAB Head of GED Shahnaj Husne Jahan, UK-side Liaison Jaina Hunt, ULAB-side Project Director Parvez Mahmud and other senior officials attended the event.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen academic and research links between Bangladesh and the UK while creating new opportunities for internationally connected doctoral education.
