South Korean actress Nana has apologised for the controversy surrounding her appearance in Netflix’s ‘The Scandal’, after viewers criticised her apparent lip filler, writes Straits Times.
Nana addressed the issue on Bubble on 22 September, acknowledging that the change in her appearance affected some viewers’ immersion in the historical drama. She said the choice was a personal decision that she now felt was inappropriate for her role.
“If my lips made viewers uncomfortable, then that was my fault,” Nana wrote. “I think it was a personal choice that wasn’t the right one for me as an actor.”
Viewers particularly questioned the fullness of her lips, saying it appeared out of place in the Joseon-era setting and did not fit her character, Hui-yeon, a widow who has chosen a life of chastity.
‘The Scandal’, which premiered on 18 September, is an eight-part adaptation inspired by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 18th-century novel ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’.
