Soni Razdan has said she has never defined herself through her relationships with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt or daughter Alia Bhatt, insisting that acting remains central to her identity, writes NDTV.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, the actor reflected on her career and the challenges she faced, including how her appearance may have influenced the roles offered to her.
Asked who she is beyond being Mahesh Bhatt’s wife and Alia’s mother, Soni said she remained a “struggling actress” throughout every stage of her life.
“I’m just an actor who really loves acting. And I’ve had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people, some wonderful directors,” she said.
Soni also suggested that her looks may have limited opportunities early in her career. She felt her “unusual looks” did not fit the industry’s expectations at the time.
She began her career in theatre but later moved into films after realising that theatre could not provide financial stability. Soni said she always wanted recognition for her acting rather than being treated as a “glam doll”.
She was recently seen in ‘Shaque: Trust No One’, which is streaming on Netflix.
