Six decades after Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise first took audiences into space, the legacy of ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ is returning in a new form with a novel marking the franchise’s 60th anniversary, writes Screen Rant.
‘Star Trek: The Original Series — Echoes in Eternity’, written by veteran author David Mack, will be released on 27 October.
The 368-page novel follows three lives unfolding across 27 years, eventually bringing them together through the mysterious planet KX-1.
Located between two black holes, KX-1 can only be reached during brief windows created by its unusual orbit and extreme gravitational forces. Three missions over different periods gradually uncover its secret, while tensions grow among the central characters.
Mack has extensive experience with the ‘Star Trek’ universe, having written several novels set during the Original Series era and helped develop the ‘Star Trek: Vanguard’ saga.
His other Trek works include ‘Harm’s Way’ and the ‘Cold Equations’ trilogy.
The novel will arrive in hardcover and ebook on 27 October, alongside an unabridged audiobook narrated by Robert Petkoff.
