The Comilla University unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti has expressed deep concern and condemned an attack on journalists while they were performing their professional duties at Rajshahi University (RU).
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Niloy Barua, convener of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti at CoU, said, “The attack on journalists is not merely an assault on individuals; it is an attack on independent journalism, freedom of expression, and democratic values.”
He added that no political dispute or difference of opinion gives anyone the right to attack media personnel.
The incident occurred on Sunday night in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall at RU, where leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal allegedly carried out the attack using local weapons. At least 10 people, including four journalists, were injured.
Jatiya Chhatra Shakti demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the incident, as well as the identification, arrest, and exemplary punishment of all those responsible.
The CoU unit also called for proper medical treatment for the injured journalists and urged university authorities to take effective measures to ensure the safety of journalists on campus.
