A female student of Gopalganj Science and Technology University (GSTU) has allegedly been harassed by four people, according to allegations raised by the victim.
The student submitted a written complaint to the university proctor on Tuesday evening. The university administration later filed a case against the four accused with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
According to the complaint, the accused called over one of her male classmates, threatened him and demanded information about the female student.
The classmate left the scene.
The students returned to the GSTU campus in an auto-rickshaw, with the accused following them onto the campus.
University students detained three of the accused and handed them over to the proctor, who later transferred them to police custody.
The accused were identified as Tajim Chowdhury, 19, Sohag, 19, Sampad Biswas, 21, and Yusuph Biswas, 21.
Three are in police custody, while one remains absconding, university sources said.
GSTU Proctor Associate Professor SM Ahsan expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged a lapse in campus security. He said strict action would be taken on Wednesday against those responsible for campus security.
The proctor said a case had been lodged and discussions were held with the officer-in-charge of the police station. He said police had assured maximum support in ensuring justice.
The university will take measures from Wednesday to restrict outsiders’ entry through campus gates to prevent similar incidents, he added.
