Three more suspected measles deaths and 1,268 new suspected cases were recorded across Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading to 8am on Friday, according to a health bulletin issued by the Integrated Control Centre of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS data covers the period from 8am on Thursday to 8am on Friday. During this period, 81 cases were laboratory-confirmed.

Since 15 March, the country’s cumulative count of suspected measles cases has risen to 202,893, while confirmed cases stand at 22,197. The total number of suspected measles-related deaths has reached 1,043, alongside 104 confirmed measles deaths.

Over the latest 24-hour reporting period, 1,152 patients were admitted to hospitals and 1,025 were discharged upon recovery. Cumulative hospital admissions since 15 March total 180,079, with 172,705 patients having recovered and returned home.

Divisional breakdown

In the last 24 hours, Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of suspected cases at 457, along with 60 confirmed cases. Chattogram Division registered 274 suspected cases and nine confirmed cases. Sylhet Division reported 151 suspected cases and one confirmed measles death.

In Barishal Division, 124 suspected cases and one suspected measles-related death were recorded.

Elsewhere, Khulna logged 116 suspected cases, Mymensingh reported 84, Rajshahi recorded 43, and Rangpur registered 19 suspected cases as well as 12 confirmed cases.

Vaccination campaign progress

Under the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, 114.5 per cent of the national target has been achieved so far. A total of 20,619,376 individuals have been vaccinated against the set target of 18,015,064.

Division-wise vaccination coverage was led by Mymensingh at 119.2 per cent, followed by Chattogram at 117.1 per cent, Dhaka at 115.4 per cent, Rangpur at 114.4 per cent, Rajshahi at 112.9 per cent, Barishal at 111 per cent, Khulna at 109.6 per cent, and Sylhet at 109.3 per cent

In City Corporation areas, vaccination coverage reached 114 per cent, with 2,173,719 individuals vaccinated against a target of 1,905,950.
