One person died of dengue in the country in the last 24 hours, while 1,300 new patients were admitted to hospital during the same period. With this, the death toll from dengue this year has risen to 295, and the number of hospitalised patients has surpassed 95,000.
This information was disclosed in the daily report issued on Friday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the report, a total of 95,451 people have been admitted to hospital with dengue from 1 January to date this year.
Among them, 89,380 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital. Currently, 5,776 patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country.
Of the patients admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours, 788 are male and 512 female. The individual who died during this period was also male.
By age group, the highest number of newly infected patients was recorded among those aged 16 to 20 years, at 193. This was followed by 172 patients aged 26 to 30 years and 161 patients aged 21 to 25 years.
By division and city corporation area, the highest number of 343 patients was admitted in the Dhaka North City Corporation area over the last 24 hours.
A total of 318 patients were admitted in areas outside the city corporation in Dhaka. Chattogram Division recorded 274 hospitalisations, while 141 patients were admitted in the Dhaka South City Corporation area.
In addition, 69 new patients were admitted to hospital in Barishal, 80 in Rangpur, 36 in Mymensingh, 35 in Khulna, and four in Sylhet.
The person who died of dengue in the last 24 hours passed away in an area outside the city corporation in Khulna Division.
Out of the 295 people who have died of dengue so far this year, 140 were male and 155 female. Among those infected so far this year, 59,269 are male and 35,938 female, meaning 62.3 per cent of total infected patients are male and 37.7 per cent female.
According to DGHS data, 1,081 people were admitted to hospital with dengue in January this year.
Admissions stood at 409 in February, 353 in March, 640 in April, 714 in May, 2,907 in June, 9,206 in July, 20,536 in August, and 43,774 in September. In October so far, 15,831 patients have been admitted to hospital.
