Four more people have died from suspected measles in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the combined death toll among suspected and confirmed cases to 1,144 since 15 March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total deaths, 1,040 were among suspected measles patients and 104 among laboratory-confirmed cases, the DGHS said in its health bulletin issued on Thursday (8 October).
During the 24 hours from 8am on 7 October to 8am on 8 October, health authorities recorded 1,332 new suspected cases, while 96 infections were confirmed.
Of the four latest deaths, one each was reported in Dhaka, Khulna and Sunamganj. The bulletin did not separately identify the district where the fourth death occurred.
According to the DGHS, a total of 2,01,625 suspected measles cases have been recorded nationwide since 15 March, including 22,116 confirmed infections.
During the same period, 1,78,927 suspected measles patients were discharged from hospitals.
In the latest 24-hour reporting period, 1,251 suspected patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,207 recovered and were discharged.
Dhaka recorded the highest number of new suspected cases, with 460 infections in the past 24 hours.
Chattogram reported 270 suspected cases, followed by Sylhet with 232, Barishal with 136, Khulna with 112, Mymensingh with 61, Rangpur with 33 and Rajshahi with 28.
Meanwhile, the DGHS said 2,05,46,782 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide under the 2026 national measles-rubella vaccination campaign, against a target of 1,80,15,064 vaccinations.
The reported vaccination coverage stands at 114.1 per cent of the target.
In city corporation areas, 21,67,670 doses have been administered against a target of 19,05,950, representing 113.7 per cent coverage.
