Veteran actress Nuton was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the induction ceremony of the newly elected committee of the Bangladesh Film Dance Directors’ Association.
The 2026–28 executive committee took oath at the event on Monday, where two generations of popular actresses, Sujata and Purnima, presented the honour to Nuton.
Nuton said she was deeply moved by the recognition and grateful to the association for choosing to honour her.
“I am sincerely grateful to the Bangladesh Film Dance Directors’ Association for honouring me in this way. I am extremely happy. Receiving the lifetime achievement award from respected Sujata apa was a great honour for me. I tried to express my deep respect by touching her feet and paying my respects on stage,” Nuton said.
Sujata, one of the enduring legends of Bangladeshi cinema, was present at the ceremony alongside Purnima, whose popularity has remained strong for more than two decades.
Purnima said she was delighted to attend the event and particularly pleased to witness Nuton receive the lifetime honour.
“It was a joy to be part of such a beautiful and prestigious event. I was especially happy to see our beloved legendary actress Nuton apa receive the lifetime achievement award. I feel proud and honoured to have been there as a member of the film industry to witness this special moment,” Purnima said.
She also thanked dance director Ivan Shahriar Sohag for personally inviting her to the ceremony.
The association’s new committee has Aziz Reza, SM Masum and Imdadul Haque Khokon as advisers.
Md Saiful Islam has been elected president, while Saif Khan (Kalu) will serve as general secretary. Salam Rizvi and Yusuf Khan are vice-presidents, with AI Alam as joint general secretary and AK Azad as organising secretary.
National Film Award-winning dance director Habibur Rahman (Habib) has taken charge as treasurer. Nuh Raj Chowdhury will serve as publicity and office secretary, while Sajib Mahmud Michael and Ivan Shahriar Sohag will oversee sports and cultural affairs. Rohan-Billah have jointly taken charge as international secretaries.
Executive members include Rozan Islam Dilip, Mohiuddin Ahmed Iran, Jasimuddin Rahim, Ratan Mia, Delwar Hossain Tuku, Abraham X Shakil and Apu-Billah.
The ceremony brought together members of the film industry to mark the beginning of the association’s new committee and recognise Nuton’s contribution to Bangladeshi cinema.
