Bangladeshi composer and music director Ibrar Tipu is facing a critical health battle after nearly two years of treatment for kidney cancer and recent brain surgery, lyricist Kabir Bakul has said.
Tipu, who has been receiving treatment in the United States, has returned home after an extended hospital stay. Bakul shared the update on social media, expressing concern for his longtime friend and colleague.
Quoting Tipu’s wife, singer Bindu Kona, Bakul said the family decided to bring him home because they felt the hospital was not providing adequate treatment.
Bakul recently spoke to Tipu over a video call arranged by his wife, Dinat Jahan Munni. He last met the composer in person during Eid-ul-Fitr, when Tipu visited his New York home despite being unwell.
Remembering Tipu’s warmth and contribution to Bangladeshi music, Bakul urged people to pray for his recovery.
Tipu has composed and arranged numerous popular songs, including ‘Tumi Amar Ghum’, ‘Tobu Tomay Niye Shopno Dekhi Na’, ‘O Prithibi Ebar Eshe Bangladesh Nao Chine’ and ‘Besh Besh Besh, Shabash Bangladesh’.
