Katrina Kaif has urged people not to let social media criticism dictate their choices or damage their self-worth, weeks after trolls targeted her appearance following a public outing. The actor said she refuses to let online opinions hold her back or leave her afraid to move forward.
According to Hindustan Times, Katrina shared her views at a London event on Thursday celebrating the first anniversary of her cosmetics brand Kay Beauty’s partnership with Space NK. Although she did not directly address the recent body-shaming, she spoke about staying authentic and dealing with criticism without allowing it to shape her everyday life.
“I think we really need to be careful in letting the narrative on social media affect our self-worth. If we start trying to cater to all of them, I think that really hampers your ability to make choices for yourself,” Katrina said.
“Personally, if every time I face critique or comments, I let that dictate my actions, I think I would have been paralysed with fear and unable to move ahead in my life.”
Later, while answering a question at the event, she reflected on the importance of encouraging oneself, even when public opinion changes.
“There are times when the world is going to celebrate you and other times when you have to be your own biggest cheerleader,” she said.
Katrina also connected that outlook to Kay Beauty’s tagline, “It’s kay to be you”. She explained that the message centres on accepting oneself and remaining true to who one is at different stages of life.
“That is, you accept yourself and are true to who you are in this moment. And that’s going to change day to day and in different phases in your life,” she said.
The actor acknowledged that life does not always go smoothly. Sometimes, people feel they are getting everything right; at other times, they struggle to make progress. She said the same applies to how people look and feel about themselves.
“There are times when you are looking and feeling the best version of yourself, and other times when you are on a journey to get there. I think it’s good to wear it all lightly and not to take yourself too seriously,” she added.
Katrina faced a wave of online criticism after attending the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations at their Mumbai residence in September. Some users targeted her post-pregnancy appearance, despite the fact that she had welcomed her son, Vihaan, with actor Vicky Kaushal in November 2025.
Many fans pushed back against the remarks and defended the actor. Several industry colleagues, including Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Sameera Reddy and Soundarya Rajinikanth, also rallied behind her amid the backlash.
