Police arrested Saddam Hossain, alias SK Saddam, 37, general secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Phultala upazila unit in Khulna, during a special drive in the capital’s Turag area on Saturday.
A police team arrested him from a paved road near Khalpar Bridge under Turag Police Station around 4pm on 10 October, according to police sources.
A review of the Crimes Data Management System (CDMS) showed that Saddam faces multiple politically related cases filed with different police stations in Khulna district.
Cases filed with Dighalia and Phultala police stations include allegations of murder, attempted murder and theft under various sections of the Penal Code, along with charges under the Explosive Substances Act.
Police said further legal proceedings against Saddam were underway.
