Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair on Friday issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the “irresponsible and baseless” remarks made by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan Milton.

In the statement, Advocate Zubair said that their attention had been drawn to a statement made by DNCC Administrator Milton regarding a secretary general of a political party allegedly owning 700 autorickshaws.

News reports published in various media on Friday indicate that his statement alluded to Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former Member of Parliament Mia Golam Parwar.

He strongly condemned and protested the dissemination of such imaginary, untrue, baseless, and fabricated information.

Advocate Zubair said as a responsible government official, the public expects responsible, fact-based, and decent statements from the DNCC administrator.

Before raising serious allegations implying that a top leader of a political party personally owns 700 autorickshaws, presenting specific and reliable evidence is essential.

However, making comments without presenting acceptable proof before the public is not reflective of responsible conduct.

He further said that issues concerning autorickshaw movement, easing traffic congestion, establishing order on roads, and the livelihoods of drivers need to be considered in light of reality and public interest.

If anyone wishes to refute the stance or statement of any political party on these matters, it should be done through logic, facts, and realistic measures – not by bringing unproven allegations against a leader.

Advocate Zubair urged the DNCC administrator to present specific and verifiable evidence before the public in support of his statement. He demanded that if the administrator fails to present evidence, he must withdraw his statement and publicly express regret.
