Bangladesh failed to qualify for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup after suffering a 3-0 defeat to the Philippines in their final Group H match in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Sunday.
Bangladesh needed a victory to reach the main tournament, but three goals in the second half ended their hopes.
The Philippines finished as group champions with six points from two matches, while Bangladesh ended their campaign in second place with three points.
Both teams had started their qualifying campaigns with wins over hosts Uzbekistan. Bangladesh won 2-1, while the Philippines secured a 4-0 victory.
The Philippines started the match strongly and put Bangladesh under pressure from the opening minutes.
Bangladesh defender Mousumi Akter stopped an early attack in the fourth minute before goalkeeper Meghla Rani Roy made several important saves.
Meghla denied a long-range shot in the 16th minute and stopped another effort from close range seven minutes later.
Bangladesh struggled to create chances early on but gradually improved towards the end of the first half.
In the 43rd minute, Mousumi came close to scoring when her header from a teammate’s cross went narrowly wide.
Bangladesh had another chance just before the break. Alpi Akter struck a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box, but the ball hit the crossbar.
The Philippines continued to dominate after the break, although Bangladesh managed to keep them from scoring until the 73rd minute.
Maya Rose Bascara finally broke the deadlock after Bangladesh failed to clear a cross from the left. She collected the loose ball and fired it into the net.
The Philippines increased their pressure in the closing stages and doubled their lead in the 90th minute.
Noelle Granzar scored with an angled shot from the right before adding another goal in the first minute of stoppage time.
Her second goal completed a comfortable 3-0 victory for the Philippines and confirmed their place in the main tournament.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, ended their qualifying campaign with one win and one defeat, missing out on a place in the Asian Cup despite their opening victory over Uzbekistan.
