Litton Das reached 9,000 international runs after surviving two dropped catches against Afghanistan in Bangladesh’s one-off Test in Abu Dhabi, turning two reprieves into a personal milestone.

The Bangladesh batter had started the match with 8,929 runs across Tests, one-day internationals and T20 internationals. His first-innings 53 took him closer to the landmark, and he collected the 18 runs he needed in the second innings to become Bangladesh’s fifth batter to reach the mark.

Litton reached 9,000 with a single off Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar in the 76th over. He had resumed the fourth day unbeaten on five and completed the remaining 13 runs to cross the milestone.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad are the four Bangladesh batters who had reached the landmark before him.

The milestone came after Litton had twice been given a second chance by Afghanistan. He was dropped on 14 when a slip fielder failed to hold a catch off Qais Ahmad. Later, on 26, Qais missed a catch of his own bowling, leaving the bowler visibly in pain.

Litton made both reprieves count. He went on to score a half-century in 61 balls, his second consecutive fifty in the innings, and punished loose deliveries with boundaries whenever the opportunity arose.

His latest milestone adds to a substantial record across all three international formats. Litton has scored 3,409 runs in Tests, with six centuries and 22 fifties. In ODIs, he has made 2,869 runs, including five centuries and 14 half-centuries.

T20 internationals account for 2,704 of his runs from 124 appearances. Although he has yet to score a century in the format, he has registered 16 fifties.

Reaching 9,000 runs places Litton among Bangladesh’s most prolific international batters. His two reprieves against Afghanistan were crucial to the latest innings, but the milestone reflects the volume of runs he has accumulated across formats over his international career.
