Brothers Union and league newcomers Chattogram City FC both broke their winless early-season slumps on Tuesday, securing 4-1 and 3-1 comeback victories respectively in their Federation Cup Group A encounters.
At the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, Brothers Union conceded early when Suleiman Sillah put Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club ahead in the 16th minute.
Brothers Union mounted a strong second-half recovery. Goalkeeper Antor Ali brought down Syed Ali Reza inside the penalty area in the 59th minute, allowing Brazilian forward Thiago Lima Duna to convert the resulting spot-kick.
Ali Reza put Brothers Union ahead four minutes later in unusual fashion, intercepting a clearance from Yasin Mia and driving his shot cleanly past Antor Ali. Forward Mohammad Halim then sealed the win with a rapid double, striking twice in two minutes to ensure Brothers Union’s first victory of the campaign across all competitions.
At the Gopalganj Old Stadium Chattogram City FC overturned a one-goal halftime deficit to defeat Rahmatganj MFS 3-1.
Sakib Bepari gave Rahmatganj an early lead before Chattogram City produced an impressive second-half display. Jafar Iqbal equalised from the penalty spot in the 57th minute, before Japanese midfielder Kenta Hara put Chattogram City ahead. Jafar Iqbal added his second goal in the 70th minute to deliver Chattogram City’s first victory since gaining top-flight promotion.
