Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has praised Litton Das for showing remarkable character in the Abu Dhabi Test against Afghanistan, highlighting the wicketkeeper-batter’s ability to deliver with both bat and gloves in demanding conditions.

Litton became the first wicketkeeper in Test history to record nine dismissals alongside a century and a half-century in the same match, scoring 53 in the first innings before following it up with 102 in the second. His achievement came despite the physical demands of keeping wicket for long periods in the heat.

“Really outstanding, the way Litton played this match. Not only in this match, I think over the last few years he has been outstanding behind the wicket, and even with DRS decisions he has been outstanding,” Shanto said at the post-match presentation.

The Bangladesh captain was particularly impressed by Litton’s ability to return behind the stumps after scoring a century, underlining the workload involved in performing both roles at the highest level.

“It’s good for Bangladesh cricket, the way he shows his character. Scoring a hundred in these conditions and then coming back to keep for 140 overs, he has shown a lot of character. I hope he will continue his keeping and batting,” Shanto added.

Litton’s performance was one of the major positives for Bangladesh, who were left disappointed after failing to turn a commanding position into victory. Having taken a 106-run first-innings lead, the hosts declared their second innings at 372-7 to set Afghanistan a target of 479.

But Sediqullah Atal’s patient 111 off 332 balls helped Afghanistan reach 346-8 on the final day, securing a draw and denying Bangladesh a win despite their efforts to force a result.
