Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Mohammed Aminur Rashid has assured that maximum efforts will be made to resolve the existing problems at Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
He also hoped that steps would be taken to increase the hospital’s capacity to 1,000 beds.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the Intern Completion Ceremony (KUM-29) and Doctors’ Reunion 2026, held at the new auditorium of Comilla Medical College Hospital on Saturday.
The minister attended the event in his capacity as the president of the Comilla Medical College Hospital Management Committee.
The minister said that the government is working on a priority basis to supply necessary medical equipment to the medical college. He mentioned that discussions would be held with the health minister regarding the allocation of required machinery for CMCH.
Emphasising the proper maintenance of medical equipment in government medical colleges, he urged relevant personnel to be careful so that equipment is not damaged quickly. He stressed that machinery in public institutions must remain operational throughout its stipulated working life, similar to equipment used in private hospitals and doctors’ chambers.
Calling upon doctors to be more sincere and humane towards patients, the minister noted that patients visit doctors expecting them to listen attentively to their physical ailments and offer necessary advice.
He highlighted that doctors can instil mental comfort and trust in patients by devoting adequate time and taking their problems seriously. He underscored that along with medical treatment, sincerity and compassionate behaviour towards patients are vital.
Pointing out that environmental pollution and food quality directly impact human health, the Minister stated that the government is actively working to ensure safe food and regulate the use of harmful pesticides. He added that necessary measures are being taken phase by phase to control harmful pesticides to safeguard public health.
Addressing the physicians, the minister stressed that merely prescribing medicines to patients is not enough, and doctors must also raise awareness on how to stay healthy.
In particular, he advised doctors to counsel people on the importance of consuming safe and nutritious food. He observed that the significance of correct and safe nutrition is gaining renewed global recognition.
Without dismissing the necessity of medicines, he affirmed that the risk of many diseases can be reduced through positive lifestyle and dietary changes. If doctors successfully create public awareness in this regard, it will bring positive change to society.
Urging newly qualified doctors to dedicate themselves to human welfare, the minister emphasised that upon entering the medical profession, they must win people’s trust through sincerity, responsibility, and humane conduct towards patients. He called upon everyone to work collectively to build a beautiful world for future generations.
Presided over by Comilla Medical College Principal Prof Md Masum Hasan, the function was attended by Comilla City Corporation Administrator Md Yousuf Mollah as the special guest. Physicians and relevant officials of Comilla Medical College were also present at the event.
