US President Donald Trump has announced that he has established a new artificial intelligence task force known as the “Super Intelligence Force”.

The task force will be chaired by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, BBC reports.

Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael will also serve as members of the leadership team.

According to a post by Trump on Sunday, the unit is charged with ensuring that the United States maintains its global leadership in technology development while coordinating federal engagement with the public.

The creation of the Super Intelligence Force follows mounting pressure from prominent figures in the technology industry calling for tighter regulation of AI.

The announcement builds on statements made by Trump the previous week, in which he indicated he would establish an AI safety oversight board following an agreement signed by top tech executives.

Trump specified that the Super Intelligence Force will coordinate federal government interactions with five key stakeholder groups: Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies.

Despite establishing this task force and facing escalating demands for stricter oversight, Trump has largely dismissed calls for stronger federal regulation, preferring instead that AI companies regulate themselves.

On 29 September, executives from major technology firms including OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, and Google—signed what Trump described as a “morally binding” pact to regulate the technology.

On that same day, Trump signed an executive order officially renaming artificial intelligence as “super intelligence”, explaining that he initiated the change because he felt the word “artificial” made the technology sound “fake”.

However, subject matter experts have questioned the rationale behind the rebranding, warning that using “super intelligence” could cause confusion because the term traditionally describes far more advanced computational systems.

Several prominent industry leaders have already begun adopting the new terminology following the executive order, including multi-billionaire Elon Musk.

Musk announced on social media on Sunday that he will rename SpaceX’s AI platform, SpaceXAI, to SpaceXSI, declaring that “SpaceX is a super intelligence company”. The Tesla boss was recently brought back into the United States government to participate in a project studying the future of war.

Musk previously served in the Trump administration heading the Department of Government Efficiency before his tenure concluded following a public disagreement with the president.
