Türkiye will send three separate delegations to observe Bangladesh’s upcoming national election scheduled for February 12, reflecting Ankara’s continued interest in the country’s democratic process.
The visiting teams will include representatives from the Bangladesh–Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group, Türkiye’s Supreme Election Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a Facebook post from the Bangladesh Embassy in Ankara, Bangladesh Ambassador to Türkiye M Amanul Haq met Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, president of the Bangladesh–Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the ambassador briefed him on preparations for Bangladesh’s forthcoming parliamentary election.
A seven-member parliamentary delegation from Türkiye, led by Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, is expected to travel to Bangladesh as election observers.
Ambassador Amanul Haq expressed sincere appreciation for the delegation’s acceptance of the Interim Government’s invitation, noting that their participation reflects international confidence and support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.
He reiterated the Interim Government’s firm commitment to ensuring that the election is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. The ambassador also highlighted the measures taken by the authorities to maintain a secure and stable environment during the polling period.
Mehmet Akif Yilmaz and other members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group thanked the Bangladesh government for the invitation and conveyed their high expectations for the election.
They expressed particular interest in the security arrangements for what is expected to be a highly competitive poll. In response, the ambassador assured them that the Interim Government has adopted comprehensive measures to guarantee voter safety and the smooth conduct of the election.
Members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group also welcomed the expanded use of the postal voting system, which is being implemented on a wider scale for the first time.
They expressed optimism that such initiatives would contribute to strengthening democratic practices and fostering political stability in Bangladesh.
The delegation also pledged its support for the newly elected government that will emerge from what they described as a historic election.
In addition to the parliamentary delegation, two more observer groups from Türkiye—one representing the Supreme Election Council and another from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—are scheduled to visit Bangladesh during the election period.
Their presence is expected to further reinforce international observation of the electoral process.
