Taylor Swift delivered an expansive 21-minute acceptance speech at the Songwriters Hall of Fame 2026 induction ceremony held Thursday night at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
Before her speech, artist Sombr performed tributes with renditions of ‘Cardigan’ and ‘Dear John’. Swift then reflected on her journey, thanking her family for relocating from Pennsylvania to Nashville to support her songwriting ambitions, calling them the reason behind her career foundation.
She also highlighted the role of filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who introduced her, recalling how she selected him as her inducting figure. Swift shared a quote from Kate Capshaw: ‘Good and true things are easy,’ framing songwriting as her most instinctive skill despite its emotional and technical demands.
In her speech, Swift revisited her early career, co-writing experiences in Nashville, and the creation of ‘Love Story’, emphasising instinct over data-driven creativity. She also commented on modern music industry pressures, urging younger artists to protect creative intuition amid metrics, criticism, and online noise.
Swift praised Sombr’s performance and talent, joking she would dominate her Spotify Wrapped, and acknowledged other inductees, including Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, Christopher ‘Tricky’ Stewart, and members of KISS. She noted she is the youngest woman ever inducted at 36 and second youngest overall after Stevie Wonder.
She was seated at the event with fiancé Travis Kelce, alongside her mother Andrea Swift and Donna Kelce, with Spielberg also present.
Earlier that week, Swift debuted a new song at the ‘Toy Story 5’ premiere and performed with Randy Newman. She also attended the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, supporting the Knicks with Alana and Este Haim, wearing a ‘Stevie Knicks’ shirt.
