Several actresses from Kolkata have made their mark in Dhallywood, and now Susmita Chatterjee joins that list. She stars opposite Siam Ahmed in the Eid release ‘Rakkhosh’ and her performance has already earned widespread praise. “Even I did not expect such a warm response,” Susmita said.
Flying in from Kolkata to Dhaka for the film’s release, Susmita toured multiple cinemas to witness audience reactions firsthand. “The reception has been incredible. The love and support I have received cannot be put into words. I never imagined I would be embraced like this on my debut,” she added.
Susmita described her role in Rakkhosh as both special and challenging. “The character is very close to me. You may see one side of her at first, but another will emerge later. Acting through expressions, especially without dialogue, was a major challenge,” she explained.
After her brief visit, Susmita returned to Kolkata on Saturday morning, March 28, but plans to come back for the film’s premiere. She praised the hospitality she experienced in Bangladesh, saying, “I never felt like I was in another country. It felt like being at home.”
Colleagues in Kolkata have also celebrated this new chapter in her career. Since the trailer’s release, she has received messages of congratulations, including a personal call from actor Jeet, who offered feedback on her work.
Susmita expressed interest in working with Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan. She said, “Of course, I would love to work with him. He is a megastar and any actress would be excited to collaborate with him. I am no exception.”
Despite her desire to explore Dhaka, interviews kept her busy, although she did enjoy local dishes such as biryani. “I will definitely visit again in the future,” she said.
Looking ahead, Susmita is keen to pursue more work in Bangladesh. “If I find a good story and character, I will definitely work here regularly,” she confirmed.
Meanwhile, she is busy with projects in Kolkata. Half of her new thriller has already been completed, with several more films lined up.
Susmita’s journey into acting has been remarkable. Growing up in a rural area, she dreamt of becoming an actress from a young age. Yet, as part of a middle-class family, she first completed her studies in electrical engineering and even secured a corporate job in Hyderabad, which she ultimately left to pursue acting. Her family granted her two years to chase her dream and she made it count.
In her personal life, Susmita described herself as “purely single.” She recently ended a long-term relationship and addressed rumours linking her to director Srijit Mukherjee and singer Mehdi Hassan Hridoy, dismissing them as false.
