The Non-Resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Bangladesh Derek Loh on Monday paid a courtesy call on the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament Shafiqur Rahman.
The meeting was held at the opposition leader’s office in the capital’s Bashundhara area.
Derek was accompanied by Michael Li South, charge d’Affaires of the Singapore High Commission, and Tai Dye Arn, country director for South Asia.
Also in attendance was Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, foreign affairs adviser to the leader of the opposition.
According to the sources, the meeting was conducted in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
Both sides exchanged views on several critical issues, including Bangladesh’s current political and economic situation, the development of industry and trade, and democratic progress following the national election.
The discussion also covered referendums and the implementation of necessary state reforms through the “July Charter”.
During the meeting, Derek commended the positive role of Jamaat-e-Islami in the nation’s economic development and its democratic journey.
He further expressed optimism regarding the future of bilateral relations, aiming to strengthen ties, expand cooperation, and create new possibilities for development initiatives between Singapore and Bangladesh.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing on the importance of democratic advancement, economic prosperity, and enhanced cooperation.
Additionally, the high commissioner extended an invitation to the leader of the opposition to visit Singapore.
