Rapid Action Battalion-2 (RAB-2) has arrested three members of the juvenile gang “Kobji Kata Anwar Group,” including its ringleader Shahin, who was leading efforts to reorganise and reactivate the gang in Dhaka’s Adabor area.
During the drive, law enforcers recovered 27 rounds of live ammunition looted from a police station, a one-shooter gun, a sharp domestic weapon, and a substantial quantity of narcotics.
The arrestees have been identified as Shahin and his two associates, Farid and Sikder Liton.
RAB-2 Commanding Officer Naimul Hasan disclosed the details at a press conference held at Bosila RAB-2 Headquarters on Sunday.
According to RAB-2, the founder and head of the gang, Md Anwar, was arrested with a large cache of weapons in February 2025. Following regular arrests of its members by RAB over time, the Kobji Kata Anwar Group became inactive.
Taking advantage of the situation, juvenile gang leader Shahin took charge of reorganising the group, recruiting new members, and attempting to reactivate its operations.
Acting on intelligence, RAB conducted a raid in the early hours of Sunday at a house in the Shekertek area of Adabor, arresting Shahin and his accomplices.
During the raid, officers seized 18 rounds of 9mm pistol live ammunition and 9 rounds of Chinese rifle live ammunition – all looted from a police station – alongside one one-shooter gun, a samurai sword, 3,335 Yaba pills, and 5.2 kg of cannabis.
Elaborating on Shahin’s criminal activities, Naimul Hasan said Shahin had recently stabbed a CNG auto-rickshaw driver and fled after failing to collect demanded extortion money.
Additionally, a video widely shared on social media showed Shahin leading a robbery targeting a Pathao deliveryman in Adabor on 11 April.
Shahin faces four cases, including robbery and preparation for dacoity, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Adabor police stations.
Among his associates, Farid has a non-FIR case registered against him at Mohammadpur Police Station, while Liton Sikder faces a theft case at Adabor Police Station. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
Meanwhile, the commanding officer highlighted that RAB has recently been appointed as the lead agency responsible for recovering lost government arms and ammunition. In line with this mandate, RAB-2 and other operational units are conducting active drives.
He announced that individuals who surrender weapons or ammunition by 15 November will face no legal action and will instead receive cash rewards.
He urged the public to secretly provide information via the hotlines of RAB-2 and other battalions to surrender arms and claim cash incentives.
