One of Bangladesh’s most versatile actors, Shahriar Nazim Joy marks 30 years of acting this year. He started in theatre before making a strong mark on television in 1997.
“I feel fortunate to still be cast in leading roles,” Joy says. During one Eid, over twenty of his dramas were broadcast, cementing his popularity on the small screen.
In 1998, Joy became the first Bangladeshi actor to play a lead in a drama filmed outside Bangladesh, in London. Since then, he has acted in films and OTT projects, including 7 Number Floor, 840, Jimmy, Guti, and Papkahini, earning widespread acclaim. “The love I’ve received across multiple media platforms makes me proud of my career,” he adds.
Some of Joy’s most loved dramas include Kharer Putul, Mukhosh, Bileti Bilash, Lal Ghuri, Protodin Ekta Golap, and Shomudro Bilash. He has collaborated with top directors like Ferdous Hasan, Sohel Arman, Arun Chowdhury, Selim Al Deen, and Gazi Mazharul Anwar.
Films like Gram Gonj-er Piritty and Jiboner Golpo brought him closer to audiences. His directorial venture Prarthona won national awards, while other projects include Arpita and Priyokamala. Joy has acted in over 1,000 TV dramas, showcasing unmatched versatility.
“Over thirty years, my acting has never bored the audience. Their appreciation is my greatest achievement,” Joy says. His career spans theatre, TV, films, OTT platforms, and hosting, making him a true media all-rounder.
“My biggest challenge is staying updated with changing media trends. OTT platforms allow me to reach new generations. I prepare seriously for every project and trust the Creator’s guidance,” he adds.
