Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s latest film, ‘The Vvaan: Force Of The Forest’, opened in cinemas on Friday, 25 September, with a decent start at the Indian box office despite receiving mixed reactions from critics and audiences.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs8 crore net in India on its opening day from 6,746 shows. It also reportedly collected around Rs 1 crore from overseas markets, taking its worldwide gross to approximately Rs9 crore.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of 28.25% on Friday. Morning shows had 12.23% occupancy, which climbed to 24% in the afternoon. The figure rose to 26.08% in the evening before reaching a day-high of 41.46% during night shows.
Among major cities, Mumbai recorded 33.8% occupancy across 491 shows. Bengaluru followed with 35% across 141 shows, while the National Capital Region recorded 28.3% occupancy across 783 shows. Pune saw 29% occupancy across 186 shows, while Lucknow registered 27% across 134 shows.
Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, ‘The Vvaan: Force Of The Forest’ is set against the backdrop of Chhath Puja and draws inspiration from the lore surrounding the Van Devi Temple.
The film follows a gripping story set in an ancient forest and was shot at real forest locations in the dense landscapes of Central India. The makers aimed to bring greater authenticity to the film’s setting and atmosphere.
Ektaa Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Niraj Kothari and Arunabh Kumar have produced the film. It is backed by Balaji Motion Pictures and The Viral Fever (TVF).
