Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach has apologised following reports that he had a relationship with actor Christina Applegate when she was 17.
The claims surfaced after the release of Applegate’s memoir ‘You With The Sad Eyes’, in which the actor recounts a brief relationship with Bach that began when she was a teenager.
In the book, Applegate writes that the encounter took place after the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, where she chose to spend time with the rock singer instead of then boyfriend Brad Pitt. She noted that Pitt was upset at the time, though the two later reconciled and moved on from the incident.
Applegate also included a diary entry describing her reaction after learning that Bach had a one year old child during that period. She wrote that she felt unsettled by the revelation and eventually decided she did not want to pursue a relationship with him. In the memoir, she added that she was relieved their relationship had not become physical.
Responding to the claims in an interview with Billboard, Bach said he was surprised by the renewed attention. He acknowledged the events took place many years ago and apologised if he had caused any hurt.
“I was a single guy on tour in a band and I met a lot of people. If I hurt anybody, I apologise for it,” he said, adding that the period was a whirlwind typical of life in the rock music industry at the time.
During the same interview, Bach also spoke about his upcoming role performing with Twisted Sister. He is set to take over vocal duties from frontman Dee Snider for the band’s forthcoming anniversary tour, which will mark 50 years since their formation and their first reunion in a decade following their retirement from touring in 2016.
Bach said Snider had given him his blessing to front the tour, explaining that the singer was happy spending time with his family and had been advised by doctors not to return to the stage.
The guitarist added that performing with younger bandmates often gives him renewed energy, something he hopes to bring to the veteran rock group during the upcoming shows.
