Content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury has been sent to jail after being shown arrested in a murder case related to the anti-discrimination movement filed at Gulshan Police Station in Dhaka.
The order was given on Monday by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam. The court has also set Tuesday as the date for hearing his bail application.
Fahim was produced before the court from the lock-up around 3:20pm on the day. Earlier, on Sunday, he was detained by members of the public and a group of students in the Mirpur Zoo area of the capital.
They later handed him over to Shah Ali Police Station. He was subsequently transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
The case states that on 19 July, during the anti-discrimination movement, thousands of students and members of the public were marching in front of the Suvastu Market in Shahjatpur, Gulshan. Under the directives of the then-government and top leaders of the ruling party, members of the Awami League and its associate bodies, along with law enforcement agencies, indiscriminately fired upon the protesters.
At that time, the victim, Md Imran (30), while returning home from his workplace, expressed solidarity with the protesters through slogans and was seriously injured by the gunfire.
He was later taken to United Hospital in Gulshan, where he died under treatment at 7:05 pm that day.
Later, in this regard, the case was filed at Gulshan Police Station in April 2025.
