A senior activist and veteran representative at the United Nations has resigned from his post, declaring that he is “giving up” his professional career to expose an alleged plan for a nuclear missile strike against Iran.
Mohamad Safa, who served as the primary representative of the Patriotic Vision (PVA) at the UN for nearly 12 years, announced his decision via the social media platform X.
He stated that he could no longer remain in his role, alleging that the international body may be facilitating preparations for the use of nuclear weapons in the current Middle East conflict.
Safa, who led the PVA delegation under various Secretaries-General and Human Rights Council leaderships, claimed that certain senior figures within the UN are “serving a powerful lobby and not the UN.”

He confirmed he has suspended all his official duties, including memberships in various UN committees and groups, to avoid being a “part of or witness” to what he described as a potential “crime against humanity.”
Warnings of humanitarian catastrophe
The former representative highlighted the immense human cost of such a strike, sharing an image of Tehran and reminding the public that it is a densely populated city of nearly 10 million people, rather than a “low population desert.”
He warned that the gravity of the situation is being underestimated, noting that a nuclear conflict could result in widespread devastation and a “nuclear winter.”

“You’re sick to want war,” Safa wrote, addressing those he termed “warhawks.” He urged the global public to take to the streets in protest, referencing recent “No Kings” demonstrations in the United States as a sign of the power of the people.
“Imagine nuking Washington, Berlin, Paris, London, or beyond… Only the people can stop it,” he added.
Criticism of international oversight
Safa also directed sharp criticism toward Israel’s nuclear programme, questioning why it remains outside the scope of international inspections.
He cited UN Security Council Resolution 487 of 1981, which called for Israel to place its nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a measure he noted Israel continues to refuse.
Concluding his statement, Safa issued a humanitarian appeal for civilians in Iran who are currently facing severe shortages of food and basic necessities due to escalating regional tensions.
He expressed that while it had been an honour to serve the UN for over a decade, he could not continue “in good conscience” given the current circumstances.
