The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday urged the public to remain cautious and avoid being misled by misinformation on social media, clarifying that photocards attributed to State Minister Shama Obaed Islam are entirely false.
The MoFA noted that fabricated photocards have been circulating online which falsely quote the state minister.
One such card claimed that Bangladesh must approach India with “submission” due to a reliance on oil, dismissed slogans like “Delhi or Dhaka” as “meaningless”, and suggested that antagonising India could put the nation’s existence at risk.
The ministry has firmly stated that these claims are baseless, misleading, and deliberately fabricated. It emphasised that the state minister never made such remarks and requested that the public not be confused by this misinformation and rumour.
According to the MoFA, the state minister has stated that the country’s foreign policy is guided by a “Bangladesh first” principle.
She affirmed that Bangladesh will maintain relations with all countries and governments while safeguarding the interests of its people. The state minister stated that Bangladesh will stand firm and continue to engage, communicate, and foster friendly relations with all nations.
