Police have recovered the bodies of five people, including two women, from separate locations in the capital’s Sabujbagh, Bhatara, Demra, Jatrabari, and Azimpur areas. The bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue on Thursday for autopsies.
The deceased have been identified as housewife Afroza Airin, 48, from Sabujbagh; expatriate returnee Tamim Mostafa, 22, from Bhatara; businessman Jiban Miah, 33, from Demra; an unidentified man, approximately 25, from Jatrabari; and an elderly woman, Angur Nesa, 72, from Azimpur.
Sabujbagh Incident
Afroza Airin was the daughter of AKM Anwarullah of Ekhlaspur in Faridganj upazila, Chandpur, and resided in a house in the Ahmedbagh area of Basabo, Sabujbagh.
Sabujbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rafiqul Islam noted in the inquest report that her body was recovered from Mugda Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Black marks were found behind her right elbow and on various parts of her right hand.
According to police, an altercation took place between Afroza, her stepbrother, and her sister-in-law on Monday night. At one point, she was pushed by them, fell onto a brick road, and lost consciousness. Family members subsequently admitted her to Mugda Hospital, where she died on Wednesday afternoon while undergoing treatment.
Bhatara Incident
Tamim Mostafa, son of Kamal Mostafa of the Panchbibi Police Station area in Joypurhat, was found dead in Bhatara.
As per Bhatara Police Station SI Md Selim Shah’s inquest report, police received a call via national emergency service 999 on Wednesday night and recovered his body from a fourth-floor mess room at Chan Miah’s residence on Member Bari Road, Kuril Bishwa Road.
He was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a rope around his neck. Primary findings suggest that Tamim had been suffering from depression since returning from Malaysia, which led him to commit suicide by hanging.
Demra Incident
In Demra, police retrieved the body of Jiban Miah, son of Abdul Majid Miah of Darikandi, Murapara under Rupganj in Narayanganj. Jiban operated an autorickshaw business and owned a fish farm.
SI Abul Kalam stated in his inquest report that the body was recovered on Thursday morning from the D&D canal adjacent to Canalpar, near Prime Care Diagnostic Centre in West Hajinagar.
It is suspected that water accumulated at the base of an electric pole beside the canal had electrified the post. When Jiban touched the pole, he suffered an electric shock, fell into the canal water, and died.
Jatrabari Incident
Meanwhile, Jatrabari Police Station SI Md Zakir Hossain reported that the body of an unidentified man, aged around 25, was recovered from a road island at Shanir Akhra on Thursday morning. Citing local residents, police noted that he died in a road accident.
Azimpur Incident
On Thursday afternoon, 72-year-old Angur Nesa, wife of the late Haji Ali Akkas, fell from the eighth-floor balcony of a building on Lalbagh Azimpur Road. Her son, Mortoza Kamal, rushed her in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where attending doctors pronounced her dead on Thursday evening.
