The first anniversary of TIMES of Bangladesh was celebrated at Chittagong University (CU) on Thursday in the conference room of Chittagong University Journalists’ Association.
Anchored by Mohsin, the CU representative of TIMES of Bangladesh, the event was attended by Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Al-Forkan as the chief guest.
Present as special guests were University Proctor Professor Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy, Director of Student Counselling and Guidance Centre Professor Md Anwar Hossain, Assistant Proctor Md Kamrul Hossain, and Chairman of the Department of Communication and Journalism Shahab Uddin Neepu.
The ceremony was also attended by Senior Reporter of TIMES of Bangladesh Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, Senior Joint General Secretary of Chhatra Dal Md Yasin, CUCSU GS Sayed Bin Habib, AGS Ayobur Rahman Tawfick, President of CU Journalists’ Association Refayet Ullah Rupak, and General Secretary Sohel Rana, alongside other leaders and general members of the Journalists’ Association, as well as leaders from various student organisations.
Delivering his speech as chief guest, the vice-chancellor said TIMES of Bangladesh has completed its first year.
He also said while one year is not a long period to evaluate all the contents of a newspaper, the quality of its published news – specifically how public-spirited, objective, sensitive, and conducive to human welfare it has been – clearly reflects its standards, just as morning sunlight shows how the day will turn out.
Expressing gratitude to everyone associated with the newspaper, he praised the publication for achieving several milestones and expressed hope that it would continue taking steps to deliver objective, welfare-oriented news.
Chairman of the Department of Communication and Journalism, described TIMES of Bangladesh as a promising newspaper in the country, praising its page layout, news presentation, editorial section, and visual journalism.
He highlighted that through impactful photo stories and photography, the paper demonstrates that a single picture can be more powerful than a thousand words, thereby striving to create a distinct image.
Md Anwar Hossain extended his heartfelt congratulations and greetings to the news team, mentioning that society expects newspapers to deliver neutral, objective news that helps overcome darkness and guides people towards light.
University proctor underscored the vital role of the media in Bangladesh, saying that among new-generation English-medium media outlets, TIMES of Bangladesh plays a wonderfully important role.
He added that over the past year, the publication has contributed significantly by highlighting coverage on the economy, politics, information dissemination, and national challenges to support the country.
Following the addresses by the invited guests, the vice-chancellor celebrated the anniversary by cutting a ceremonial cake.
