A bus helper died after falling from a moving bus in the capital’s Sayedabad area on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nayem Hawladar, 30, an assistant of a Unique Paribahan bus.
The accident occurred around 3pm at Sayedabad Janapath intersection.
Nayem fell onto the road from near the bus door and sustained critical injuries.
His fellow workers rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 4pm.
Mohammad Zahidul Islam, supervisor of the Unique bus, said the bus had left Sayedabad for Patuakhali with passengers.
“When we reached Janapath intersection, Nayem fell from near the bus door onto the road and was seriously injured. We immediately took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” he said.
Nayem’s family home is in Pakhimara village under Kalapara Police Station in Patuakhali. He lived there, and his relatives have been informed of his death.
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, inspector and in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the body had been kept at the morgue for autopsy.
Police from Jatrabari Police Station are investigating the incident, he added.
