The government will extend all necessary support to the families of those killed and injured in the gas cylinder explosion at Priti Composite Textile Limited in Ashulia, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan said on Monday.
The explosion occurred on the premises of the factory in the Jamgora Chourasta area of Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Moyeen said he visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on an emergency basis following instructions from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to enquire about the condition of the victims.
“The Prime Minister is regularly enquiring about the victims and has expressed his commitment to stand by you,” he told the victims and their family members.
He said the relevant authorities had been instructed to ensure proper treatment for those injured in the incident. The government is also providing financial assistance to the affected families, he added.
During the hospital visits, the minister met the victims and spoke to their relatives. He handed over Tk50,000 in government assistance to the family of Nazrul Islam, who died in the fire.
Expressing deep sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones, Moyeen wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also called on all concerned to act with greater caution and responsibility to prevent similar accidents.
Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, who accompanied Moyeen during the visits, said the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure proper treatment for those injured.
He said Tk 50,000 in cash would be provided by the government to each family of those killed and injured in the incident.
An investigation committee has already been formed to determine the cause of the accident, Ariful said, adding that necessary measures would be taken after the committee submits its report.
He also instructed the relevant authorities to perform their duties with greater caution to strengthen workplace safety.
Labour and Employment Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarfadar and senior officials from the relevant ministries were present during the hospital visits.
