At least 17 people were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing local dominance in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj on Tuesday night.
The clash took place at Khalishakhali village in the upazila around 8:30pm.
According to locals and people concerned, a dispute had been continuing between groups led by Moula and Gora over local influence and other issues.
The situation escalated on Tuesday night after an argument between youths from the two groups, which later turned into a clash.
Gora Kha, leader of one of the groups, claimed that supporters of Advocate Moula attacked them first with locally made weapons, triggering the clash between the two sides.
He said 13 people from his group were injured in the incident. Four members of the Moula group were also injured, according to sources.
However, no statement was available from the Moula group regarding the allegations.
The injured were initially taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Later, one person was referred to Dhaka while four others were sent to Gopalganj General Hospital for better treatment.
Kashiani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahfuzur Rahman said a police team was sent to the spot after receiving information about the clash.
“No party has yet filed a written complaint with the police station. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
