A youth was allegedly tied to a pole and beaten by several locals over accusations of stealing a mobile phone in Daulatpur, Kushtia.
During the assault, one of Ruhul Hossain’s legs was broken and his hair was cut off.
Police later rescued him and admitted him to hospital. The incident took place on Friday evening in the Joyrampur area of Hogolbaria union.
Ruhul, 20, is from Swarooper Ghopa in Bheramara upazila.
He went to Joyrampur market, where an allegation of stealing an iPhone was brought against him. Several local residents caught him, tied him to a pole and beat him severely, breaking one of his legs. They later cut his hair, according to police and family sources.
After receiving information, police rescued the victim and took him to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to Kushtia General Hospital.
Iqbal Hossain, resident medical officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital, said the youth has been given necessary treatment.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer‑in‑charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman confirmed the incident.
