The family of 13‑year‑old Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, who was recently killed, has alleged receiving threatening phone calls from unidentified numbers.
Apratim’s father, KM Firoz Shahriar, said the calls have left the family fearful for their safety.
On Monday night, Firoz received a call from an unknown number. The caller asked for his identity and, once confirmed, used abusive language. Even after he disconnected, repeated calls followed, forcing him to block the number. Later, he was contacted multiple times from another number as well.
Attempts to reach both numbers later found them switched off.
Out of security concerns, Apratim’s mother, Cumilla University teacher Nahida Begum, has kept her phone switched off.
Firoz said, “My son has been killed. Whether it was for the iPhone or some other reason, we do not know. We are living in fear. Calls come from different numbers without revealing identity. That day, the caller used very offensive language.”
He added, “After my son was murdered, the accused themselves came with me pretending to search for him. What guarantee is there that their leaders will not come to my house tomorrow? Police are not disclosing details for the sake of investigation. But unless something is done, how will this situation be resolved?”
He filed a general diary (GD) and inform the Detective Branch (DB) for security reasons.
Sadar Dakshin Police Station Inspector (investigation) Rajib Ahmed said Apratim’s father filed the GD alleging cyberbullying and abusive phone calls from several numbers.
The matter is under investigation, he added.
Apratim went missing from the Kotbari area of Cumilla On 18 September. His body was later recovered from a hilly area.
So far, police have arrested four suspects in connection with the case. Among them, Mozammel Hossain Fahad, 15, and Md Kamrul Hasan, 15, are reported to be members of a juvenile gang known as “KBG.”
