Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Sunday foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push an unidentified man into Bangladesh through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.
The incident took place around 10:30am near the Khoshalpur Border Outpost (BOP), according to a press release issued by the 58 BGB Battalion later in the afternoon.
According to BGB, personnel of the 194 BSF Battalion’s Ramnagar Camp opened a gate and attempted to push an unidentified man into Bangladesh near border pillar 60/98-R, within the Khoshalpur BOP area.
The man crossed the zero line and was trying to enter Bangladesh when a BGB patrol team spotted him, the release said.
The patrol team intervened, forcing the man to return to Indian territory.
BGB said the man was later seen near the barbed-wire fencing on the Indian side of the border.
Munshi Emadadul Rahman, assistant director of the 58 BGB Battalion in Maheshpur, said the force’s timely intervention prevented the alleged push-in attempt.
He said the incident had already been brought to the attention of the 194 BSF Battalion.
“BGB remains highly vigilant to protect the border, prevent push-ins and illegal crossings, and maintain peace and order in border areas,” he said.
