Cumilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisuzzaman has said law enforcement authorities are facing no pressure over the ongoing crackdown on teen gangs.
Speaking to journalists on Monday after the inauguration of the ‘Amar Cumilla’ app, he said the crackdown had received widespread praise. He added that no one had telephoned him to object.
He warned that if anyone attempts to exert pressure on the administration, he will publicly disclose their name before the media.
Police detained 1,294 people, including gang leaders, during three days of drives across all 18 police stations in Cumilla district.
The district-wide operation began on 23 September after authorities compiled a comprehensive list of teen gangs following the Apratim murder case.
SP Anisuzzaman warned that any police officer found harassing detainees or accepting money would face immediate suspension and legal action. There would be no leniency in such cases, he added.
He said students and youths verified to have no involvement in criminal activities are being handed over to their guardians. He also advised parents and guardians to ensure their children do not remain outside after evening.
The SP said drives against teen gangs would continue unabated without compromise.
