Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapon said the Prime Minister has pledged policy support to promote research in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and robotics, urging young technologists to demonstrate greater depth of research and insight in developing AI platforms, datasets and programming tailored to Bangladesh’s own needs.
He said the government would provide policy support, while technology experts would need to develop practical roadmaps and identify specific areas where AI can be effectively applied. The Adviser stressed the need to develop locally relevant AI tools, platforms and datasets while addressing challenges including electricity supply, GPU capacity and the shortage of rich Bengali datasets.
Zahir Uddin Swapon said AI is no longer confined to laboratories and is transforming sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing and freelancing. He also praised Japan’s development partnership with Bangladesh and described Nippon AI Dojo 2026 as an important initiative for developing young people’s practical skills in AI.
He spoke as chief guest at the project presentation and closing ceremony of Nippon AI Dojo 2026, held on Wednesday at the auditorium of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in Dhaka, said a press release.
The programme was jointly organised by UAP, CHOWA GIKEN Corporation, Japan, and AI SAMURAI JAPAN to enhance the practical and technical skills of young people and strengthen technology- and skills-based cooperation between Bangladesh and Japan.
A key highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of AI-based projects developed by trainees from BRAC University, North South University and UAP. Certificates were distributed among the trainees, while selected participants were honoured for their outstanding skills, creativity and contributions. A team from UAP emerged as the winner of Nippon AI Dojo 2026.
Japan Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shin-ichi attended as guest of honour. UAP Acting Vice Chancellor Abu Sayeed M Ahmed was present, while UAP Board of Trustees member Qaiyum Reza Chowdhury chaired the programme.
Speakers emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration among educational institutions, industries and international partners to develop skilled human resources in AI and other emerging technologies.
Members of the UAP Board of Trustees, faculty members, officials, students and representatives of the participating organisations attended the event.
