A special team of the 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has rescued a 16-year-old girl named Salima after she went missing from Nayapara Registered Rohingya Camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

She was rescued at around 3.30pm on Saturday from a house adjacent to the hill in D-Block of the camp. Salima is the daughter of Nurul Alam, a resident of that block.

According to relevant sources, family members conducted searches across various parts of the camp after the teenager disappeared.

Failing to trace her after a long search, the family reported the matter to Nayapara Police Camp, after which a special team from 16 APBN Nayapara Camp launched a rescue operation.

Acting on confidential information, the team conducted a drive at a house near the hill in D-Block on Saturday afternoon and rescued Salima.

Commanding Officer of 16 APBN and Additional DIG Kawsar Sikdar confirmed the incident to TIMES on Saturday evening.

He said the girl’s family alerted the police camp after she went missing, after which the special team initiated searches in various locations before locating and rescuing her from the house near the hill based on secret information.

However, detailed information regarding how the teenager reached that house or the reasons behind her disappearance was not immediately available. The APBN official said authorities are currently investigating the matter.
